UK Homeowners Call On Government to Modernise Stamp Duty Laws

The Woolwich can today reveal that 79 per cent of homeowners think that stamp duty should be scrapped for first time buyers and 64 per cent also believe that the thresholds for stamp duty should be raised as house prices have more than doubled in the past five years.

Barclays Bank PLC is to be the lead corporate donor to a new Trust established by Nelson Mandela in the UK to provide long term sustainable funding for his good works in South Africa and on the African continent. The news was announced during 86-year old Mr Mandela’s visit to London.

Despite being one of the most criticised forms of taxation, new research by Barclays reveals that almost three quarters of those questioned were unable to correctly identify the current IHT threshold: over 50 per cent had no idea what the current IHT threshold is and a further 23 per cent gave an incorrect figure.
