Consumers set to spend record £47 billion this Christmas

Despite household budgets being squeezed throughout 2011, shoppers are expected to loosen the purse-strings and splash out in favour of festive cheer this Christmas. Figures from Barclays predict that a record £46.9 billion will be spent during December, that’s £17,540 per second and a four per cent increase from December 2010.

Barclays supports customers through the storm

The UK is set to take a battering this week, with the Met Office issuing warnings of gale force winds of up to 80mph in some places. Barclays is advising customers to take basic precautions and is on standby to help customers who might be impacted by the stormy weather.

Barclaycard launches the UK’s first contactless corporate card

5 December 2011, London: Barclaycard Global Commercial Payments announces that from today, all newly issued Barclaycard corporate cards will be enabled to make contactless transactions. This is the first contactless corporate card in the UK and will give businesses of all sizes greater control to track smaller transactions which are currently made using cash.
