Barclays partners with Cyber Security Challenge UK to attract cyber talent

08 September 2017

Barclays will host Cyber Security Challenge UK’s next Face-to-Face competition on Saturday 7 October at its technology centre at Radbroke Hall in Cheshire, to identify talented individuals who might be suited to a career in cyber security.

The competition is open to UK residents not currently working in cyber security. To secure an invite to the live event, entrants must complete two challenging cyber security games, which pit their coding and problem solving skills against the best in the industry. Entrants must successfully complete the online games by 5pm on Friday 15 September. Details are on CSCUK’s website: https://cschallenge.uk/BarclaysF2F17

Commenting on the partnership, Troels Oerting, Barclays Group Chief Security Officer, said:

“The growth of AI and connected devices mean cyber threats are growing exponentially, which makes cyber security one of the fastest growing areas of the technology sector, expected to grow to a $120bn industry by the end of this year.

Finding and recruiting the cyber security experts we need to take on this threat takes imagination. There is no single, conventional career path so we need a new approach to identify and recruit the right people. This competition we are sponsoring with Cyber Security Challenge UK requires no formal qualifications – it is open to people as young as 15 years of age and aims to encourage them to use their skills to serve society and develop amazing career under the stewardship of Barclays.”

About Cyber Security Challenge UK

With the backing of founding sponsors like the SANS Institute, the Challenge was founded in 2010 to create a series of virtual and face-to-face competitions, designed to identify talented people and encourage them into the cyber security industry. Now in its 8th year, the Challenge is backed by over 50 of the UK’s most prestigious public, private and academic organisations, and hosts a wide programme of activities designed to spread the word about why cyber security is such a fulfilling and varied career and help talented people get their first cyber security jobs. Working with those at schools, universities and those looking to change careers, the Challenge is making a notable difference to the career prospects of those with the talent and aptitude to become cyber security professionals.

Since Cyber Security Challenge UK launched in 2010, over half the candidates from the Face-to-Face and Masterclass competitions have successfully secured jobs in cyber security. By comprehensively testing candidates’ abilities across a number of disciplines that are highly sought after by employers today, the Challenge’s sponsors have access to talent that would otherwise remain hidden.
