Barclays partner with TeamPride and Rainbow Laces Campaign to drive equality in sport

Today (23 November, 2017) Barclays is delighted to announce its joining TeamPride, the consortium of companies set up by the charity Stonewall to fund the Rainbow Laces campaign and help drive equality in sport for the LGBT community


The partnership has been signed ahead of this year’s Rainbow Laces Campaign which is encouraging everyone in sport, whether at the professional or grass-roots level, to don their rainbow laces to show their support for equality for all players and fans.


In its fourth year, the Rainbow Laces Campaign has quickly become a recognised part of the sporting year and will see participation across many sports. The Premier League, for which Barclays is the Official Banking Partner, is fully supporting the campaign and is encouraging involvement by players and clubs over this weekend, the 24th to the 26th November.


Mark McLane, Barclays Global Head of Diversity and Inclusion said: “We are delighted to become a partner of TeamPride, and support their, and our ambition, to drive equality for the LGBT community, whether in the world of finance or sport.


“Sport is so powerful at bringing people and communities together, yet for many it has not always been welcoming, and needs to do more to become inclusive. TeamPride is helping do this by gathering support from some of the biggest organisations in sport and drawing attention to the issue.”


Ruth Hunt, Chief Executive of Stonewall said: “We’re thrilled that Barclays have lent their voice to our Rainbow Laces campaign. Stepping up and joining TeamPride is a great move towards making sport everyone’s game. Putting on a pair of laces may seem like a small act, but for someone who is LGBT it’s a powerful sign of acceptance. As one of our global Diversity Champions, Barclays has long been committed to creating inclusive and welcoming workplaces for LGBT people and it’s wonderful to see them continuing their drive for equality across the board, whether it’s in the boardroom or stadiums.”


Barclays will also be supporting ‘Wear Your Rainbow Laces Day’ on 29 November, encouraging staff and customers to show their support, and will be giving away laces at their head office to colleagues.
